Maureen’s Story

Finding Hope Through Education

Maureen grew up in a loving home where her father worked tirelessly to provide for their family. He had built a respected career in their village of Midigo, and despite surviving years of war and exile in South Sudan, he remained a strong and dedicated provider. But when he unexpectedly lost his job, everything changed.

As the only Christian family in a predominantly Muslim community, their sudden poverty brought deep shame and isolation. Meals dropped from three a day to just one. Her mother found work as a school secretary, but the income wasn’t enough to support the household. Maureen had to stop school after Grade 11—a painful decision for a girl with big dreams.

Still, Maureen remained anchored in her faith. She served faithfully in her church choir and trusted God for a way forward. After joining a mission trip with Legacy Footfalls, where they prayed for new opportunities, her uncle offered to sponsor a certificate program of her choice. She enrolled at UCC Packwach to study procurement and logistics.

However, her uncle could not cover her living expenses such as accommodation and meals, making school a struggle once again.

That is when the Women’s Impact Fund stepped in.

Through this support, Maureen can now focus fully on her education without worrying about daily survival.

“The Fund has been an answered prayer. I can now concentrate on my studies and trust God for a brighter future.” – Maureen
