Kawala’s Story — Rising Into Leadership

From Abandonment to Influence

Kawala’s childhood was marked by hardship. At only eleven years old, her mother left and never returned, leaving her to care for herself and her family. With no support from her father and little chance of remaining in school, she worked in gardens, fetched water, cooked, and took on any small job she could find.

When home became abusive, she moved between villages doing menial work to survive. Though she never returned to school, she held onto one quiet hope: that life could one day be different.

As a young wife and mother, she continued working from home to home doing laundry and odd jobs. Life remained difficult—but resilience had become her identity.

Everything began to shift when she joined the Women’s Impact Fund program. For the first time, Kawala was surrounded by women who believed in her potential. There, she learned to weave and craft with natural materials—skills that brought both healing and income.

Her transformation has been remarkable.

She is now:

Organizing group activities

Volunteering in leadership roles

Growing in confidence

Inspiring other women with her journey

Her hands—once worn from survival—now create beautiful products that sustain her family. Her voice—once silenced—now carries influence and hope.

Kawala is becoming a leader in her community, proving that when women are given opportunity, even the most painful beginnings can grow into beautiful futures.

Thank you for making this transformation possible—one woman at a time.
